Every registered domain has no less than 2 Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain to the servers of a specific web hosting provider. In this way, you have got both your website and your emails handled by the same service provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there is a variety of other records, like A and MX. The first one reveals which server manages the site for a given Internet domain and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For instance, whenever you enter a domain in your browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of another company provided you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the site and the e-mails suggests that you can have your site and your emails with 2 different providers if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting account through our company and you want to move either your website or your e-mails to another company, it is going to take you literally only two mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different email provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard two, it is not going to take more than a few clicks either to add them. You can even set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or set up will not take more than several hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that reveals how long a record will remain active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

With the semi-dedicated servers we offer, you are going to have complete control over the records of all domains and subdomains which you add in your hosting account. You can easily check what A and MX records each one of them has using the DNS Records section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and editing any record takes just a couple of clicks. If you choose to change your web or e-mail hosting provider, you can update the necessary record and point your domain to the other service provider for one of the services, as you still continue using the other one through us. You can also keep the main domain address here, while you edit the A record of only one of its subdomains. If you're modifying the MX records and you need additional ones on top of the standard two we have, you could create them with ease and set a different priority for every single one.
