Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange data between a hosting server and a client. Since the information exchanged by the two sides is encoded, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of managing an Internet hosting account. The commands that may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, in particular, the possibilities are limited as you'll not have root access to the hosting server, so you could only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They're all actions which are carried out in the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall be able to install server-side software or to restart the server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like OS, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Website Hosting

SSH access is provided with all cloud website hosting services that we offer. With some of them, it's provided as standard, while with others it is an additional upgrade which you can add with a couple of clicks in your website hosting CP. You can obtain SSH access from the section dedicated to it in which you will also find the details that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may pick the password that you'll use and, if required, you will be able to modify it with several clicks from the same location. All of the commands which can be used with our shared plans are listed inside a help article along with relevant instances. If the SSH access function is allowed for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you will be able to receive SSH access to it with just a mouse click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with all accounts. If your plan doesn't support this function by default, you shall be able to add it easily using the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you'll find the info that you need to connect to the server using a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated at any time, if needed. These login credentials are also essential if you want to upload files via a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we offer. A detailed list of the commands you can execute will provide you with a better idea of what tasks you could perform inside your account and each is accompanied by a couple of examples of the syntax.

SSH Telnet in VPS Hosting

The virtual private server offers which we offer provide SSH access by default, not as an optional upgrade or a function which you must enable. Once your new server is ready, you will be able to connect and begin working on your content through the login details that you've entered during the order process. A copy of the SSH credentials shall be sent to you via e mail too. As your VPS shall be isolated from the others on the physical hosting server, there are no limitations in regards to what you can or cannot do using SSH. You can download, set up and manage any piece of software that will run on a Linux hosting server, reboot your entire server or simply a specific software component, and work with files, folders and databases with no restrictions. All you'll require for that is a console or an SSH client on your end.
